Writing key vocabulary

This week at school we have been learning about habitats and how they can affect animals’ lives and how global warming, climate change, and what humans are doing to affect those animals.

When we read the texts and listened to the videos we found some words that we didn’t know what they meant so we had to research what they meant. We had to write what they meant and how you could use it in a sentence. There were lots of complicated words that I didn’t know what they meant but now I know what they mean. We had to make a DLO describing all the words that we learnt.

Here is my DLO:

Do you know what a habitat is?

Answers for the questions in the smaller box.

Have you learnt anything new and the Treaty of Waitangi?

Perfect PBL

Kia ora

This term in PBL we have been learning about the different aspects of the world including soil, water, rocks, air, life forms and more.
My Learning Goal was to develop an understanding that water, air, rocks and soil, and life forms make up our planet and recognise that these are also Earth’s resources.

I learnt that spider monkeys help the planet by eating the seeds from a certain tree and then pooping the seeds and then the seed will grow into another tree.
My purpose in PBL this term was to use what you have learned from existing knowledge about the different aspects of the world. Now it’s time to put those thoughts with some of your own to create something new! We would like you to plan, design and create your own world or island.

Here is my Create. I hope you like it.

Wonderful Writing

Kia ora

This week in Writing we have been learning about how to describe things in lots of detail but not using many words to do it.
My Learning Goal was: To think about what effective vocabulary to get your point across in a clear and concise manner.

I learnt that you can make a story very eye catching with only using a little amount of words. I also learnt that when you look at one hundred words it doesn’t look like much.
My create in writing this week was to write a story looking a t picture and only using one hundred words to describe the picture .

Here is my Create. I hope you like it.

What did you learn from my post? What new knowledge do you have about one hundred word writing?

Reading Create Wk2 T4

Kia Ora welcome back to my blog.
This week for reading we have been reading a text about the negatives and positives of sitting down and standing up. Our text was called Don’t sit if you wanna keep fit.

Our learning goals are Make connections between texts and own life experiences, using more sophisticated texts and to identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about.

We had to do a experiment about our pulse. We learnt where to find our pulse one is on the side of your neck and the other on was on you wrist. We had to stand for five minutes and sit for five minutes and see if our pulse was higher or lower when we were sitting or standing.
For our create we had to create a poster including negatives of sitting down, benefits of moving and recommendations to stand/move more.

Here is my reading create:

How long do you think you sit a day?

Remarkable Reading

Last week for reading we read about Arthur Lydiard all about his life story. Arthur Lydiard is a famous New Zealand runner, He loved athletics but his passion was rugby. My learning goals are to Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they can make the reader think about.

We had to read a text about Arthur Lydiard’s life and his legacy. For our create we had to make a short 100 word profile about his life story. We had to include one piece of information from each heading in the text that we read.

Here is my reading create:

Have you ever heard about Arthur Lydiard?

If you havent then you could maybe research about him.

How can we be Champions of Peace

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog,
For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’. Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the ying yang, the victory sign and the CND symbol.
These symbols represent peace because the ying yang expanding, warm, outward reaching and open the emotion of peace.
With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because one of the peace symbols is the CND sign.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because I found it interesting learning about people who show peace. And also getting to make a peace board game for our Y7 Imovie video. I was in the section Artists world.

I learnt about more peace signs and symbols that I had never heard of before and what they all mean and how they relate to peace.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by when I am playing cricket I can show good sportsmanship by congratulating the other team if they win.

Yr7 Wainui Camp 2023

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we went on school camp. We left on Monday and got back on Wednesday. We went on a 1 1/2 hour bus ride over the windy hills to Wainui. My activity group was made up of Me, Jules, Bella, Ella, Dakota, Mark, George, Angus and Vincent. Our activity leader was Mike, Angus’s dad. He was a very helpful leader and made all the activities fun. My Bunk was made up of Me, Jules, Olivia, Sovarne, Kiriana, Lauren, Dakota, Freya and Georgia.

Our first activity was search and rescue. Mike hid Bob (Bob is like a person made out of pillows) really well it took us wile to find Bob especially because it was in a forest. I really enjoyed it, it was a good challenge for the first activity.

I have created a slideshow to showcase and reflect on my time at camp.

Have you ever been to Wainui camp?

Have you ever been camping before?
